Professor D. J. Oyedele

Professor Durodoluwa Joseph Oyedele was born on the 3rd of March, 1961 at Arigidi Akoko, Ondo State. He graduated from the University of Ife in 1983 with B.Agric (Soil Science) degree and obtained a Ph.D in Soil Science at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, in 1997 specializing in Soil Physics and Soil Conservation. He has distinguished himself in the study of structural aggregation and soil erosion as influenced by spatial and temporal variability in soil physical properties. Durodoluwa Oyedele joined the Department of Soil Science, Obafemi Awolowo University as an Assistant Lecturer in 1990 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor in October 1, 2008. He was the acting Head, Department of Soil Science and Land Resources Management from 2006 to 2008 and later the substantive Head of the same Department from 2011 to 2014. He was the Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture from 2017 to 2019. Member, Governing Board, Institute for Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T) 2014 to 2016.
Prof. Oyedele was a visiting scholar at the Danish Institute for Plant and Soil Science (Now the Faculty of Agroecology, Aarhus University), Denmark in 1996. He is an Associate Scientist of the International Center for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy. He is also an Associate Scientist of United Nations University/Institute for Natural Resources and Agriculture (UNU/INRA), Ghana from 2003 to date. He was a Visiting Scientist at the National Research Center – Institute for Soil Ecosystem Studies (CNR_ISE), Pisa, Italy, 2009 – 2010.
Professor Oyedele has won several research grants and international awards among which was research grants from the International Foundation for Science (IFS), The United Nations University-Institute for Natural Resources, IDRC/CIDA, IDRC/GAC, the Netherlands Government and NRF all amounting to about $8 million. He was voted as one of the outstanding Lecturer of the year 2018 in southwestern Nigeria by the Excellent Media Group. He belongs to several national and international scientific associations among which are Soil Science Society of Nigeria, International Union of Soil Scientists, Soil Science Society of America, America Agronomy Society and International Biometrics Society among others. His leadership quality is expressed by the number of postgraduate students he has supervised at the master’s and doctorate levels, all of whom are established academics in institutions across the world. Professor Oyedele is married to Folasayo Oyedele and they blessed with four children.
