OAU, UNICEF Talk Academic Programme, Research Collaboration

The University management has agreed to a proposed collaboration with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in the areas of research, training and the development of a postgraduate programme which curriculum would focus on Communication for Development.

The University’s consent was conveyed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Chris Ajila, who led other Principal Officers to receive the Chief of Field Office of UNICEF, Akure, Dr. Tushar Manohar Rane, on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede.

The DVC (Admin) remarked further that the University is ready to collaborate with UNICEF in the areas already identified and any other that might come up later.  This collaboration, according to him, “is a welcomed development; and our University will ensure that we make the most of it for the benefit of our country Nigeria and the African region as a whole.  We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that we give our best, so that we can reciprocate UNICEF’s overture genuinely and appropriately, for the sake of prosperity”.

The UNICEF Chief of Field Office, who was accompanied on the visit by the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Budget and Development in Osun State, Dr. Olalekan Yinusa, and another associate, Dr. Adeyanju, noted that his organization would be delighted to work with the faculty staff of the University to address some social and health issues through joint research.

He disclosed that his UNICEF would help the University develop a postgraduate programme with specialization in Communication for Development, adding that the draft curriculum would be forwarded to the University within days for necessary action that would facilitate prompt commencement.

Also on hand to receive the UNICEF Chief and his company were the Registrar, Mrs. Margaret Omosule; Librarian, Dr. Femi Oguntuase; Director, Central Office of Research, Professor Yinka Adesina; and Director, Linkages and Sponsored Research, Professor Kehinde Taiwo among others.
