OAU Central Technological Laboratory and Workshops (CTLW) Develop Pedal-Operated Hand-Washing Device

It is no longer news that the COVID-19 pandemic has thrown the entire world into a serious state of confusion. As the incident has continued to rampage the entire world and with no known boundaries, concerted efforts are being made in each country, and by extension each organization or community to cope with the effect of the deadly virus such that human existence is not totally questioned. While research efforts are ongoing to produce vaccines for the disease, different approaches are being employed as precautionary and preventive measures to curb the spread of the virus. Notable among these are the use of face masks, hand-sanitizers, regular washing of hands as well as social-distancing.

There has been a strong emphasis on the washing of hands and the need to device an appropriate system such that the virus is not spread in the course of this activity. The Central Technological Laboratory and Workshops (CTLW) of Obafemi Awolowo University, has risen to this challenge and has developed a pedal-operated hand-washing device. The dispensing of soap and water for washing hands are both achieved via a pedal. This is to complement the efforts of the University in containing the deadly disease and particularly in preparation for the resumption of full academic activities. Visit the Centre to procure this device.
