The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, is in an unprecedented linkage talks with Morgan State University, Baltimore, Maryland, USA, in a bid to shore-up the quality of graduates and programmes of the University.
This symbiotic linkage, apparently the first of its kind in the fifty-seven (57) year history of OAU, would see students spend some years of their various academic programmes at OAU, but spend their final year and one extra year at MSU and be awarded the Bachelors degree of OAU and the Masters degree of MSU, among many other benefits in the areas of students and staff exchange, collaborative research, inventions, publications, trainings, seminars, workshops and conferences.
The Director of the Centre for Advanced Transportation and Infrastructure Engineering Research, Department of Civil Engineering at MSU, Dr. Oludare Owolabi, an alumnus of OAU, who facilitated the linkage, while presenting the details of its working documents to the management of the Obafemi Awolowo University said MSU is pleased to enter into such an ambitious relationship with Great Ife. He continued that although the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was drawn up to cover all the academic progammes being run at both varsities, the pilot project under the 4 + 2 arrangement will commence with the 2019/2020 intake of the Civil Engineering Department in the Faculty of Technology.
The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede who led other university officials to receive Dr. Oludare Owolabi, promised that OAU will leave no stone unturned in ensuring a hitch-free operation of the MoU when it comes into effect, assuring also that OAU will ensure that every student from MSU that will be visiting Great Ife Campus, has a most memorable stay.
He went on to express the university management’s profound gratitude to the Morgan State university for the generous offers being made, stressing that the Obafemi Awolowo University will duly reciprocate the good gesture with immense commitment to the realization of the ultimate objectives of the linkage.
Dr. Owolabi seized the opportunity of the gathering to announce an international conference holding at MSU in October, 2019 which the faculty in the Civil Engineering Department and the entire Faculty of Technology can benefit from.
