The Executive Governor of the State of Osun, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola, has commended the Governing Council of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife for its support for the government of the state.

His Excellency, Alhaji Oyetola, gave the commendation while receiving members of the OAU Governing Council led by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi, at his office, noted the efforts of the institution in agricultural programmes and other innovations that would be beneficial not only to the state, but also the nation in general. The Governor, who lamented the worsening state of the global economy and its impacts on Nigeria, maintained that it would be important for all tertiary institutions to look inward to find ways to generate funds to supplement government’s subvention, expressing the willingness of his administration to partner the University in its efforts towards massive agricultural schemes and other laudable programmes.

Responding, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi, congratulated the Governor on his victory at the poll and at the Supreme Court, appreciating him for appointing many alumni of the University into his administration.

He informed the Governor about the on-going massive agricultural project of the institution capable of employing over three thousand (3,000) workers, thus reducing unemployment in the state. Dr. Ogunbiyi further informed Governor Oyetola of the on-going power generation project on the University campus which will be completed soon, noting that when completed, will serve the University community and the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC) while the excess would be transferred to the national grid for the use of people of the host community.

OAU Denies Fraudulent 'Professor'

The attention of the authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile - Ife, has been drawn to a news item in the social and conventional media about one Charles Jide - Oni, who was arraigned before a Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, for obtaining money under false pretences and other fraudulent activities, by the Ibadan Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. He was also alleged to have claimed to be a Professor in our University.

A release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, stated that for the avoidance of doubt, and to set the records straight, we make bold to say that, having gone through our staff list, data, and other record - keeping devices in our archives, we DO NOT HAVE ANY OF OUR PROFESSORS, RETIRED OR SERVING, DEAD OR LIVING, WHO GOES BY THAT NAME.

Accordingly, the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile - Ife, does not have anything to do with the self styled 'Professor' and urged the general public to disregard, in its entirety, whatever claims he might have made in connection with our esteemed Institution of higher learning.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, therefore, advised the public to be wary of those who may be using the name of the University for anything unholy, emphasising the zero tolerance of his administration for fraud and other related vices.

He implored the general public to always verify from the University the claims of anybody who may be using the name of the university for fraudulent activities or any unholy conduct.
