Dr. Benedict Okechukwu Oramah holds M.Sc. and Ph.D. Degrees in Agricultural Economics obtained in 1987 and 1991 respectively from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He obtained a B.Sc. degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria in 1983. He has published a book on “Foundations of Structured Trade Finance” and has written over 35 articles on a wide range of African economic, trade and trade finance issues. He is a regular speaker at several trade and trade finance conferences around the world.

Dr. Oramah is Chairperson of the Africa Chapter of the International Factors Group (IFG). He serves on the Board of IFG, the Editorial Boards of Trade and Forfaiting Review (TFR) and the Journal of African Trade (JAT) and is a member of the Consultative Board on the World Cocoa Economy of the International Cocoa Organization (ICCO). He was listed the number 59 in the new ranking of the 100 most influential Africans by Jeune Afrique, the French language Pan-African magazine. Dr. Benedict Oramah has been named winner of the industry Ambassador of the year award at the inaugural receivable Finance International (RFIx) Award 2018 held in London. Dr. Oramah played an important role in the evolution of Structure Trade Finance in Africa as he provided step-by-step guidance in its structure and implementation.

Dr. Oramah joined African Export – Import Bank (Afreximbank) as Chief Analyst in 1994 and was promoted to the position of Senior Director, Planning and Business Development in 2007. Prior to joining Afreximbank, he held the position of Assistant Research Manager at the Nigerian Export Import Bank (NEXIM) from 1992 to 1994.

He is the current President of the Afreximbank. He assumed the position of President of the Afreximbank in September 2015. Prior to his current role, he was the Executive Vice President in charge of Business Development and Corporate Banking (BDCB), a position he occupied from October 2008 to September 2015. As Executive Vice President, Dr. Oramah supervised the Business Development functions, namely: Trade Finance, Project and Export development finance, Syndications and Specialized Finance (SSF), and Corporate Finance and Advisory Services (CFAS), he also supervised the Research and Knowledge Management Functions of the Bank. Furthermore, he assisted the then President of the Bank in overseeing the Bank’s Strategic Planning and International Cooperation functions.


MRS. IBUKUNOLUWA ABIODUN AWOSIKA – Chairman, First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Founder/CEO, The Chair Centre Group for Doctor of Business Administration (D.BM) HonorisCausa

Ibukun Awosika is the Chairman, First Bank of Nigeria Limited, Nigeria's premier and most valuable banking brand. She is also the founder and CEO of The Chair Centre Group. The companies in the group include: The Chair Centre Limited, Sokoa Chair Centre Limited, Furniture Manufacturers Mart, TCC Security Systems and Cubes and Boxes Limited. These companies are involved in manufacturing, retail and bank-way security systems services.

Ibukun chairs a number of corporate and not-for-profit boards amongst which are: d.light Design Inc., Convention on Business Integrity (CBI), Digital Jewel Limited, House of Tara International and Afterschool Graduate Development Centre (AGDC), a facility which she promoted to help address youth employability and enterprise issues in Nigeria. She sits on the boards of Cadbury Nigeria Plc., Imperial Gate School and Peniel Apartments Limited. She was Chairman, GEMS Africa Limited, FBN Life Assurance Limited, FBN Capital Limited and Kakawa Discount House Limited. She also served on the board of Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA).

Ibukun is a graduate of Chemistry from University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Nigeria; an alumna of the Chief Executive Programme of Lagos Business School; the Global Executive MBA of IESE Business School, Barcelona-Spain; and Global CEO Programme of Wharton, IESE and China European International Business School (CEIBS).

With high interest in social issues, including women, Ibukun is a co-founder and past chairperson of Women in Business, Management and Public Service (WIMBIZ). In November 2019, she was appointed as the President of International Women's Entrepreneurial Challenge (IWEC). An ordained Pastor and founder of the Christian Missionary Fund, Ibukun, through this faith-based organization works with hundreds of missionaries spread across Nigeria to change lives with the provision of medical, educational, and other supplies.

As a fellow of the African Leadership Initiative, Aspen Global Leadership Network, Institute of Directors and Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria, Ibukun, through her projects aspires to use her opportunities in life to further the greatness of her dear country by raising entrepreneurs to create jobs for the large unemployed youthful population. She is a member of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), served on National Job Creation Committee (NJCC), and sits on the International Advisory Board of IESE Business School, Barcelona-Spain and the Governing Council of Pan-Atlantic University.

Ibukun is a multiple award-winning entrepreneur and the first Nigerian recipient of the prestigious International Women Entrepreneurial Challenge (IWEC) Award as a nominee of the US Department of State in 2008. She loves to watch investigative and legal series in her leisure time. She is happily married to Abiodun Awosika and they are blessed with three wonderful sons.

OAU to Honour Rwandan President Paul Kagame, Shobanjo, Oramah, Awosika at 44th Convocation

The authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, have perfected all arrangements to confer Honorary Doctorate Degrees on four eminent Africans whose immense contributions to the socio-economic cum political development of their immediate environments, countries, continent and the world at large have been adjudged invaluable.

A release by the Public Relations Officer of the University, Abiodun Olarewaju, listed the awardees as the Rwandan President, Paul KAGAME; one of Nigeria’s finest Marketing Communications Practitioners who is a quiet but great philanthropist, Mr. Biodun Olusina SHOBANJO; the President of African Export-Import Bank (AFREXIMBANK), Dr. Benedict Okey ORAMAH and the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the First Bank of Nigeria Plc., Mrs. IbukunOluwa Abiodun AWOSIKA.

Rwandan President Paul Kagame’s outstanding leadership qualities and achievements in Rwanda, and within and outside Africa, were considered, especially his being actively instrumental to ending the infamous genocide in Rwanda in 1974. It is in recognition of these outstanding and remarkable achievements that President Paul Kagame is to be conferred with the Doctor of Public Administration (Honoris Causa).

For Mr. Biodun Shobanjo, his trailblazing efforts and enduring legacies in the Marketing Communications industry in Nigeria, as the doyen of the industry in the last fifty years and his humane social activism, set him on the pedestal for the award of the Doctor of Letters (D. Lit.) (Honoris Causa) of the University.

Similarly, the University is conferring on Dr. Ben Oramah the Doctor of Sciences D.Sc. (Agric. Economics) (Honoris Causa) in recognition of his outstanding academic achievements and rather unique contributions to finance and trade in Africa; an area in which he had published a book and written several articles.

In the same vein, Mrs. IbukunOluwa Awosika’s indelible corporate achievements, unique and outstanding contributions to the growth of entrepreneurship in the society, in addition to her humane social activism, earned her the recognition of the University with the conferment of the Doctor of Business Administration (D.BM) (Honoris Causa). The four honorary awardees will be conferred with their degrees as part of the events marking the 44th convocation ceremonies of the University holding from Wednesday 11th to Saturday 4th December, 2019.
