OAU Don elected as the Western Africa Representative of Union for African Population Studies

Prof Akanni Akinyemi, the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, was elected as the Western Africa Representative of Union for African Population Studies (UAPS). He will oversee the union’s activities in West Africa for the next 2 years. The Union aims to promote research, capacity building, and policy dialogue in specific areas of specialization in population and development in Africa. In line with this effort, the UAPS Council is inviting you to get involved by proposing new thematic areas where you, together with other population scientists can contribute to African development.

He was elected at the ongoing 9th conference held in Lilongwe, Malawi. The conference saw a significant presence of Nigerian attendees, including staff from Obafemi Awolowo University, who presented abstracts. The event took place from May 20th to 24th, 2024.
