The Obafemi Awolowo University received 16 of the 85 research proposals earmarked for funding in the 2023 Grant Cycle. The selected proposals underwent a screening process organised by TETFUND, which began in March 2023 with the submission of 4,287 concept notes from potential applicants.

On Friday, March 8, 2024, a presentation ceremony was held for 10 out of the 16 staff members whose proposals were approved by the TETFUND National Research Fund. These 10 are the first tranche of recipients of 60% of the total grant allocated to the University. The Principal Investigators received letters on behalf of their teams at a ceremony held on Floor O. The ten PIs who received awards are:

- Dr. Olaposi Titilayo
During the ceremony, Prof. Akanni I. Akinyemi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Development, congratulated the grant recipients and urged them to uphold high research ethics and principles in their work. He emphasized the importance of pursuing excellence as representatives of the University in their respective fields and assured them of his unwavering support throughout the research process.
The Chairperson of the TETFUND Office at Obafemi Awolowo University Prof. Yinka Akinlo also congratulated the beneficiaries and provided guidance on how the PIs can navigate the research process smoothly. She assured them of the necessary support from TETFUND.
Attendees at the meeting included Prof. A.I. Akinyemi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation, and Development, the Chairperson of the TETFUND Office at Obafemi Awolowo University, and the 10 Principal Investigators who received the first tranche of the grant.
