Obafemi Awolowo University’s Annual 3-day Workshop For Provosts, Deans, Directors, Head of Departments/Units And College/Faculty Secretaries

The 3-day Workshop for Provosts, Deans, Directors, Heads of Departments/Units, and College/Faculty Secretaries was concluded on October 19, 2023, at Oduduwa Hall. The theme of the workshop is “Ensuring Effective Service Delivery In the 21st Century University System” and the third day was chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof. O.A. Daramola.

The third day began with Dr (Mrs) O.A. Fadehan (The University Librarian) who gave an insight on planning, organization and preservation of University records for efficient and effective service delivery. Her presentation explained the relationship between records, documents, and Archives, their nature, and the best ways to keep them for the University.

The second paper was presented by Dr. Ezekiel Agbaje (Director of planning, budgeting, monitoring/management of information system unit) in his paper he talked about University Accreditation and mostly about the benefit of Accreditation.

Professor Niran Oluwaranti, Director of the Linkages and Partnership Office also presented a paper titled Opportunity for International Linkages and Research Collaboration in the University where he highlighted the reasons why Universities engage in international linkages. His session highlighted the positive aspects of the COVID-19 era on research collaboration. He also mentioned that linkages lead to collaboration therefore linkages between institutions can lead to different cooperation and collaboration.

Professor Olubola Babalola (the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics) discussed the Roles and Responsibilities of Provosts, Deans, and Heads of Departments/Units in enhancing University Ranking. Some of the points discussed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academics are the Significance of University Ranking, Ways to improve University Ranking and Sources of data and information.

The Dean, Division of Student Affairs highlighted the position of the Division of Student Affairs within the University’s organogram and stressed the student-centered roles of the Division. He showed some infrastructural renovations and development aimed at fostering conducive learning and socialization experience for students. He demonstrated the roles of the Division of student affairs as an intermediary between the University Management and the students. Furthermore, the Dean, Student Affairs highlighted the various leadership structures of different student bodies within the University, highlighting the roles of each position, and the ways in which the Division of Student Affairs interact with them.

Barrister Yinka Ayantola discussed the Essentials of University Rules and Regulations. In his session, he showed the various progression in the rules and regulations guiding the University, particularly focusing on the roles of the different units within the school.

Professor Morenike Oluwatoyin Ukpong, Executive Director of the Central Office of Research representing the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Innovation and Development (Professor Akanni Akinyemi) discussed Research, Innovation, and Development for the 21st century where she mentioned that Research is a major driver of a university. Professor Morenike Ukpong also highlighted the features of the 21st-century University, the strategic approach required of O.A.U.

Lastly, Professor Yomi Daramola the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration gave an insightful presentation on Mentorship. He highlighted the qualities of a good mentor, the benefits of mentoring for mentees, and the benefits of mentoring for mentors. He also emphasized that the Vision of the University is to be a top-rated University in Africa.

Professor Yomi Daramola gave his closing remarks by appreciating everyone present at the workshop and declared the workshop Closed.
