Professor Akanni Akinyemi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Innovation and Development, Obafemi Awolowo University, was inducted as a fellow of the Social Science Academy of Nigeria (SSAN) for his remarkable contributions to research in the social sciences.

He was one of a group of four respected social scientists in the country who were honored with this prestigious recognition at the 2023 General Assembly of the Social Science Academy of Nigeria (SSAN) held at the University of Maiduguri Guest House in Abuja on the 28^th and 29^th of November 2023.

The other three inductee are Prof. Temi Ologunorisa, the Vice Chancellor Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, Prof. Ogoh Alubo of the University of Jos and Prof. Uche Isiugo-Abanihe, Emeritus Professor, University of Ibadan.

Prof. Michael Kwanashie delivered the annual lecture title: Economic, social and political foundation of democracy. In addition, members of the Academy presented the outcomes of their research in line with the theme – Democratic Governance in Nigeria.

The ceremony was attended by; Emeritus Professor Funmi Togonu-Bickersteth (President of the Academy), General Martin Agwai (Former Chief of Defense Staff), Professor Bilikisu Aminu-Shinkafi (first Female Professor from Zamfara), Director of Democracy and Governance Studies, Professor Adewale Aderemi among others.
