Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, is immensely proud to congratulate our distinguished alumna and faculty member, Professor Oluwatoyin Morenike Ukpong, on her election as the West Africa Representative on the Board of the Society for AIDS in Africa!
Professor Ukpong’s remarkable achievement is a testament to her outstanding leadership and unwavering commitment to advancing health equity and research excellence. As the former Executive Director of OAU’s Central Office of Research, she pioneered innovative research initiatives, elevating our university’s global standing. During her tenure as Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, she propelled the faculty to rank among the top 201-300 globally in the 2022 GRAS ranking, cementing its reputation for academic excellence.
A trailblazer in adolescent health, HIV/AIDS research, and bioethics, Professor Ukpong has authored over 260 peer-reviewed publications and shaped global health policy through her work with WHO, UNAIDS, and the Population Council. Her advocacy for vulnerable populations and transformative efforts in establishing adolescent clinics for HIV/AIDS care have had a profound impact.
