The Research Commercialization and Acceleration Training Workshop held at the African Center of Excellence, Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria, focused on enhancing the commercialization of research outputs. The workshop, held on the 1^st, 2^nd and 3^rd of February 2024 and led by Dr. Obichi Obianjuwa and Dr. Basirat Akinsipo, brought together researchers and supervisors from various institutions in Southwestern Nigeria. Key insights and recommendations from the workshop include:

1. Recognizing universities as hubs of innovation, with the potential to translate research into tangible products and services through deliberate strategies.
2. Acknowledging Obafemi Awolowo University’s potential for self-sustainability and economic contribution to its community via research commercialization.
3. Promoting innovation-driven research through collaboration among academia, government, and industry.
4. Encouraging value-driven research focused on commercialization and considering end-users’ needs.
5. Emphasizing a holistic approach to research commercialization, including technology transfer, intellectual property management, industry collaboration, and entrepreneurship support.
6. Strengthening Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Offices to facilitate research commercialization.
7. Implementing clear policies and procedures for patenting, licensing, and royalty distribution.
8. Leveraging industry partnerships for funding, expertise, and market insight.
9. Developing strategic partnerships aligning research objectives with industry needs.
10. Nurturing entrepreneurship among academics and researchers by supporting startup ventures.
11. Establishing incubator centers and acceleration hubs to support aspiring entrepreneurs.
12. Fostering a cultural shift towards collaboration, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
13. Prioritizing training and re-training to facilitate cultural transformation.

By adopting these strategic recommendations, Obafemi Awolowo University can maximize the impact of its research outputs, driving innovation, economic growth, and societal value.
