OAU Academic Research Excellence Awardee & Ambassador, Prof. Anthony Adegbulugbe Provides Insight on Boosting Aggregate National Crude Oil Production at 2024 African Energy Week (AEW)

African Energy Week (AEW), hosted by the African Energy Chamber, is an annual event that brings together African energy leaders, global investors, and public and private sector executives to discuss the continent’s energy future. The 2024 AEW, themed “Invest in African Energies,” has welcomed prominent figures such as the OPEC Secretary General and Energy Ministers from Nigeria, Equatorial Guinea, South Africa, and Gabon, among others.

On November 6, a panel titled “Exploring Opportunities with Nigerian Independent Operators” featured insights from Prof. Anthony Adegbulugbe (Green Energy International Limited), Ahonsi Unuigbe (Petralon Energy), Ainoje Alex Irune (Oando PLC), and Chidi Egonu (Energia Ltd.). Moderated by Etienne Kolly of S&P Global. In the discussion, Prof. Adegbulugbe highlighted the need to complement the centralized onshore crude oil export terminals in the country with modular fit-for-purpose oil export terminals. He posits that the deployment of these modular infrastructure can increase aggregate national crude oil production by about 300k BOPD (Three hundred thousand barrels of oil per day) within two years.

He cited the Atlantic Terminal Infrastructure Limited (ATIL) Onshore Oil Terminal  which will be commissioned first quarter  2025 (Q1, 2024) as an example, showing how its modular design ensured timely delivery, and now offers efficient and cost-effective oil evacuation for nearby stranded  fields, potentially boosting oil production in the country.
