Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, is intensifying preparations for the 2026 West African University Games (WAUG), scheduled to hold from October 2 to 12, 2026.

The University is expected to welcome student-athletes, officials, coaches, and delegates from universities across West Africa for the regional sporting event.

In preparation for the Games, attention has been focused on key areas including sporting facilities, accommodation, transportation, security, medical services, accreditation, and volunteer coordination.

Several facilities within the University are also receiving attention as OAU works towards providing a conducive environment for athletes and visitors throughout the competition.

The Games will feature a range of sporting events, with participating institutions competing for honors, while also promoting friendship, unity, and interaction among students across the West African sub-region.

Beyond sporting activities, WAUG 2026 will offer the University another opportunity to showcase the unique heritage of Ile-Ife and the vibrant academic and social environment of Obafemi Awolowo University.

With the opening ceremony drawing closer, activities around the University are expected to increase as various committees continue to fine-tune arrangements for the successful hosting of the Games.
