a. The Obafemi Awolowo University has been granted the hosting right for the 2023 West African University Games (WAUG) Championship. The continental sports event will hold between 15^th and 22^nd December, 2023 and will attract contingents from various universities in West Africa. The University Administration has commenced preparation for the sports fiesta with the constitution of the Local Organizing Committee headed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor O.M.A. Daramola.

b. The Memorandum of Understanding between the University and the West African Universities Sports Federation was signed on 13^th November, 2023 and the official mascot for the Games unveiled on the same day. The University has been seeking support from various philanthropic individuals, groups and organizations for infrastructural development to make the entire university estate more beautiful before the competition as well as upgrading the sports facilities of the University. The University Administration welcomes suggestions from various stakeholders in the university system on strategies to ensure a successful hosting of the competition.
