OAU VC PRESENTS 2024 BATCH-2 PATENT CERTIFICATES TO RESEARCHERS ON OCTOBER 2, 2024.

The Director of the Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office (IPTTO), Prof. Grace Ogunlusi welcomed the Principal Officers of the University, the Executive Director (ED) of the Central Office of Research (COR), Prof. Ebun Adejuyigbe, the Director of the University Research Office (URO), Prof. Jide Odu, the Patentees and other members of the University Community present at the event. She further stated that the presentation of these set of patent certificates by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Simeon Bamire makes the total patents obtained by IPTTO for researchers in the University to stand at 45.

The DVC-Academic, Prof. Olubola Babalola congratulated the patentees for the great work done, to the extent of getting patent rights for their research products. She also appreciated the IPTTO for the hard work and dedication which resulted in the processing and obtaining another set of patent certificates. She further advised the patentees to take the invention a step further in commercializing them so that they can be a source of revenue.

The DVC Administration, Prof. Yomi Daramola congratulated the Vice-Chancellor for the achievements and appreciated the researchers for their hard work, dedication and commitment to excellence in research practice which resulted in getting patents for their research products.

The Vice-Chancellor on his part appreciated other Principal Officers, the Executive Director of the Central Office of Research (COR) and all the Directors of the COR. He further commended the researchers for doing themselves, the COR and the University proud. He noted that patents are essential part of the performance indicators for a 21st Century University and this shows that OAU is progressing in research and development. He further charged the patentees to take the next step of ensuring their patented inventions are utilised.

The Vice-Chancellor appreciated the efforts of IPTTO and tasked the office to take another step forward by ensuring the patents are commercialised. He further encouraged the patentees to collaborate with other researchers in the university to ensure that they also come up with patentable research products that can be commercialised and utilised in solving the societal problem. He encouraged that for subsequent patent certificate presentations, the patentees should come with the sample of their patented research products to be showcased at the event.

The Director of IPTTO appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and stated that she is optimistic that the University will eventually bring together a team that can reach out to industries for the purpose of marketing the patented inventions in the university. Thereafter, the patented certificates were presented by the Vice Chancellor to each patentee.

The Executive Director on her part noted that it is a very good thing that is happening in OAU. She appreciated the sacrifices of the patentees and congratulated them for achieving the great feat of having patented inventions resulting from their research activities. She advised that the patentees should ensure that their patented inventions are used to ensure that they have impact on the society. She further stated that on behalf of the COR, each team of researchers who got the patents will be given an award to be utilized in furthering their research activities.

During the event, the Directors of IPTTO and URO notified the Vice-Chancellor of the importance of visiting the Department of Mechanical Engineering in OAU and see several outstanding research products produced by staff and students of the department, which is being exhibited yearly. The Vice-Chancellor was elated with the award and the information about the department of Mechanical Engineering. He appreciated the Executive Director of the COR and commended her for the award to the patentees.

He promised to visit the department of Mechanical Engineering with other members of the management team, he further tasked the Head of the department to reach out to other Heads of department in the University for them to see those inventions and to replicate similar initiatives in their various departments. The Head of the department of mechanical engineering intimated the Vice-Chancellor of the new lab built by moniepoint for the department as a research collaborative initiative between moniepoint and the department of Mechanical Engineering in OAU and invited the management team and other members of the University to attend the commissioning of the lab.
