Obafemi Awolowo University has been awarded a multimillion-naira fund from the French Embassy for Plastic Recycling in Nigerian University Campuses. Obafemi Awolowo University is one of the seventeen (17) higher institutions that competed for this prestigious award and the University team led by Professor Elizabeth Funmilayo Aransiola emerged victorious. Professor Olufemi Adeyinka received the award on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Prof Adebayo Simeon Bamire at the French Embassy in Abuja on October 9, 2024. The award was presented by Mr. Marc Fonbaustier, Ambassador-Designate.
The Obafemi Awolowo University team will be working on “Sustainable Utilization of Waste Plastics for Production of Bricks and Floor Tiles” with the specific aim of recycling shredded waste plastics into cost-effective bricks and floor tiles. The University is convinced that the project presents a sustainable solution to the seemingly insurmountable challenge of plastic waste disposal in the country. The University has pledged full support for the successful implementation of the project and congratulates the research team.
