Research Capacity Building at Obafemi Awolowo University: Exploring the Secondary Use of Data
From June 25th to 27th, 2024, Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife hosted a comprehensive Research Capacity Building Programme focusing on the secondary use of data. This three-day event aimed to enhance the skills and knowledge of researchers in utilizing secondary data for their studies.
The programme covered a range of topics essential for effective research using secondary data. Participants had the opportunity to understand the importance of secondary data use, developed a secondary analysis research plan, and learned about the IPUMS projects. The event also featured a variety of sessions including web demos, online data analysis, and guided discussions on research ideas.
Notable facilitators and contributors, such as Prof Akanni Akinyemi, Prof Grace Ogunlusi, Prof Agunbiade, Prof Morenike Ukpong and Prof Niran Oluwaranti led the discussions and training sessions. Experts from the IPUMS team provided insights into data usage in publications and research and offered guidance on documentation and online resources. The event was an enlightening experience, providing participants with the tools and knowledge to effectively utilize secondary data in their research.
