The National Journal of Health Sciences hosted an award ceremony at the Clinical Skills Centre, Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital. The Awards ceremony was organised to celebrate past Editors of the journal in its 21-year lifespan.
The Editor-in-Chief, Prof. O.O. Akinwole, appreciates everyone present particularly the invited guests, past Editors of the journal, past Provosts, the editorial consultant, the Executive Director of the Central Office Research, and the Vice-Chancellor of the University.
In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor who was represented by Prof. Koya (Chairman Committee of Dean’s), congratulated the Editors of the Journal on the success of the celebration and for sustaining the work of the journal despite challenges. He encouraged the journal’s editorial board to continue in their commitment to excellence.
The Guest Lecturer, Prof. Greg Erhabor, congratulated the Editorial Board for consistently producing editions of the Journal, encouraged them to maintain the integrity of the peer review process, and ensure clarity of journal objectives and goals. Furthermore, he highlighted that editorial team is in place to serve the authors and stakeholders of the journal. He identified scientists, policymakers, postgraduate students, health practitioners, and other significant members of the public as the targets of journals. He advised that developing measurable steps to ensuring that journals meet the needs of the target groups is important in moving the journal from aspirations to accomplishments.
The new website of the journal was displayed and the online submission portal was tested. Awards were given to the authors of the best articles in the journal since inception, the Guest Lecturer, the most reliable Reviewer, the special guest of honour, and the past Editors of the journal.
In attendance were the special guest of honour for the award ceremony, Dr. Kingsley Kola Akinroye, the Chair, Osun State Hospital Management Board. Also present was the Editorial Consultant, Prof. K.T. Ijadunola. Prof. J.O. Owa, Prof. F.A. Arogundade (Registrar, National Postgraduate Medical College UNILAG), Emeritus Prof. A. Akinsola (Founding Editor of NJHS), Prof. Babatope Kolawole (Provost Health Sciences), Prof. J.A.O. Okeniyi (OAUTHC CMD), and Dr. Olofinbiyi.
