The management of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife has hosted a delegation from EduBridge Academy, which was on a working visit to discuss a potential partnership aimed at enhancing entrepreneurship training for students and staff.
The EduBridge Academy team comprising: Okoronkwo Mmesoma; Motunrayo Audu; Esther Delano; Wakeel Olawale; and Olaide Oladosu – all distinguished alumni of the University, presented a proposal focused on equipping students with entrepreneurial skills from their first year.
The goal is to ensure that by the time they graduate, they will have acquired the necessary competencies for self-reliance, innovation, and economic empowerment.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Professor Bola Babalola, commended the initiative. She was joined by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Yomi Daramola, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation, and Development), Professor Akanni Akinyemi. Also in attendance at the meeting was the Director of the University Advancement Office, Dr. Adeduntan Segun-Olasanmi.
Professor Babalola lauded the EduBridge Academy team for their foresight, emphasizing that the initiative aligns perfectly with the global emphasis on skills acquisition for employability and self-sufficiency. She further encouraged the team to incorporate measures that would ensure indigent students are not left out of the programme.
The University reiterated that the proposed training programme through the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Development Studies and other relevant structures, expressing readiness to collaborate with EduBridge Academy to actualize the proposal.
A two-week timeline was set for the submission of a comprehensive action plan to facilitate the seamless implementation of the training programme.
This proposed collaboration marks another step in OAU’s continuous effort to bridge the gap between academic learning and real-world economic opportunities, ensuring that graduates are not just job seekers but job creators.
